Most cultures have a harvest festival and China is no exception. Zhong Qiu Jie (中秋节), the Autumn Moon Festival, has roots back to ancient times and is an important traditional Chinese holiday. Taking place on the fifteenth day of the eight month of the lunar calendar, the Autumn Moon Festival is usually on or close to the time of the “Harvest Moon” when the moon appears at its fullest during the autumnal equinox.

Celebrate the Autumn Moon Festival, one of the four most important holidays on the Chinese calendar, at Lan Su Chinese Garden the weekend of September 30 & October 1!

Growing houseplants purifies air and adds beauty and tranquility to living spaces. Utilizing the relatively new technique of kokedama, we can bring the mossy magic of a temperate rain forest into the home. Come learn the basics of kokedama with Megan of Portland Nursery. We will make use of tropical house plants, moss and soil to create characteristic “moss balls” that can be the first in your very own string garden!
